Report of Visit of Professor Schmid
CCP5 supported the visit to the UK in March 2000 of
Friederike Schmid
,
from the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz. The trip
covered many groups with an interest in theory, simulation and
experimental work on soft condensed matter.
Professor Schmid visited Reading University, Department of Physics
(local contact:
Mark Matsen
) from Wednesday 8 March to Monday 13 March,
giving a talk entitled "Computer simulation and theory of polymer
interfaces" on the Wednesday. In this period she made a 1-day visit on
Friday 10 March to Imperial College, Department of Chemical Engineering
(local contact:
John Seddon
) giving a talk on "Simulation and theory of
polymer interfaces".
Professor Schmid then travelled to Bristol University, Department of
Physics (local contact:
Mike Allen
) and gave the departmental
colloquium on Monday 13 March, "Interfaces in complex materials",
departing on Wednesday morning to travel to Leeds. At the IRC in
Polymer Science & Technology (local contact:
Martin Buzza
) she gave a
seminar on Wednesday afternoon entitled "Simulation and theory of
polymer interfaces". Professor Schmid moved on to Sheffield University,
Department of Physics and Astronomy (local contact:
James Forrest
) to
give a talk on Thursday 16 March on "Computer simulation and theory of
polymer interfaces".
The trip was concluded with a visit to Edinburgh University Department
of Physics and Astronomy (local contact:
Nigel Wilding
) where Professor
Schmid gave a talk on on Monday 20 March entitled "Interfaces in complex
materials".
