Visit to UK by Professor Sharon Glotzer and Professor John Kieffer
25 - 29 November 2002
Professor Sharon Glotzer
and
Professor John Kieffer
from University of Michigan
visited the UK as part of the CCP5 visitor program.
They spoke about their research together at
a mini symposium in Oxford, and separately at the universities
of Cambridge and Warwick.
In Oxford they were hosted by Prof. Julia Yeomans (Theoretical Physics)
and Prof. Paul Madden. (Physical and Theoretical Chemistry)
Sharon Glotzer gave a talk
"Supercooled Liquids as Nanostructured
Complex Fluids: Insights from Molecular Simulations"
and John Kieffer
"Simulations of Nanostructural Assembly
in Hybrid Polymer / Inorganic Materials."
Contact between Sharon Glotzer and
Dr. Juan P. Garrahan (Theoretical Physics) proved
particularly useful.
In Cambridge Sharon Glotzer was hosted by Jean-Pierre Hansen and Dr. Ard Louis
from the Chemistry department, and presented the same talk.
John Kieffer gave a mineral physics seminar
"Simulations of Structural Transitions in
Crystalline and Amorphous Inorganic Materials".
In Warwick Sharon Glotzer visited Prof. Mike Allen and gave a seminar
in the theoretical physics series.
John Kieffer meanwhile visited Dr. Mark Rodger in the Chemistry department
and presented his nanostructure talk.
All of the parties involved in the visit made useful contacts
found it worthwhile.
